Google Pay x SCADpro
Duration
Sep 2021 - Nov 2021
I worked in a team of 15 SCAD students under the guidance of Google to research, develop, prototype, and test designs focusing on how underrepresented groups are managing their money in the U.S. At the end of the 10 week sponsored class, we delivered three different concepts to Google based on their prompt.
Roles
Interaction Design Lead, Prototyping Lead, UX Researcher
Student partners majors
UX, Design Management, Game Design, Illustration
The brief
"Based on how we characterize each transaction, what actions might a user want to take in order to better understand and manage their money?"
My role at a glance
I was on one of the three sub-teams within the class. Each team of 5 students each came up with their own unique concept in response to the project brief.
My team was responsible creating the “Money Map” concept, which we defined as: A visualization of flexible transactions on a map with a report to contextualize, track, and analyze financial habits to help users better understand their expenses.
For the sub team I was a part of, I was both the interaction design & prototype lead. I was primarily responsible for the execution of the final concept, as well as designing various prototypes that we user tested throughout the process. I also contributed for as a UX researcher, by conducting interviews and help affinitize all of our data points from our research.
Class goal
Design and test a lo-fi addition to the Google Pay app that provides users with in-depth context of their recurring expenses for greater mindfulness of their value and enabling better-informed subscriptions.
User research
We interviewed 24 people in under-represented communities to understand how they use finances. We took 1,330 data points and affinitized them into 129 themes with 4 key areas. We then user tested with an additional 24 people in two rounds to understand how they would use our feature.
Working with Google
Over the course of the 10 week class we had four check-ins with Google. Every two and a half weeks we presented to them our progress, where they provided constructive input and feedback that helped guide us to our final result. The folks at Google had a verity of roles ranging from product mangers, researchers, product designers, and software engineers.
Shoutout to these awesome people
